About the RoleWe are seeking an experienced and ambitious Principal Energy & Building Simulation Consultant to join our expanding team in the Southwest and South Wales region.
This role is a key strategic priority for our team. The successful candidate will act as a technical authority on energy compliance and dynamic thermal modelling, driving net-zero strategies across a diverse portfolio of commercial, residential, and public sector projects. While the primary base for this role is Cardiff, we are also open to applicants based in Bristol.
Key Responsibilities-
Technical Leadership & Operational Modelling: Lead advanced dynamic thermal simulation using IES VE to evaluate energy performance, operational energy consumption, and thermal comfort.

Building Regulations & Compliance: Oversee compliance testing and verification across Part L (Conservation of fuel and power) and Part O (Overheating) of the Building Regulations.

Thermal Comfort & Overheating Assessments: Deliver advanced thermal comfort assessments, including TM59 (residential overheating) and TM54 (evaluating operational energy use at design stage).

Project Management & Client Liaison: Manage client relationships, present technical energy strategies to design teams, architects, and developers, and ensure timely project delivery.

Mentorship & Quality Assurance: Mentor junior and mid-level consultants, review IES models, and uphold strict technical standards across all deliverables.

Net Zero Strategies: Advise clients on decarbonisation pathways, net-zero carbon operational strategies, and sustainable building performance optimization.

Extensive hands-on experience using IES Virtual Environment (IES VE) for dynamic thermal simulation.

In-depth technical knowledge of Part L, Part O, TM54, and TM59 regulatory standards and methodologies.

Proven track record in a consultancy environment with strong project leadership capabilities.

Strong knowledge of building services, thermal performance, and HVAC systems.

Excellent communication skills, both written and client-facing.

Relevant energy accreditation (e.g., Low Carbon Energy Assessor - LCEA, NDEA Level 4/5, OCDEA).

CEng status or working towards Chartered status with a relevant body (CIBSE, Energy Institute, etc.).

Experience with NABERS UK or Passivhaus standards.

Salary range
- £50,000 - £65,000
