About the role
This important role supports Balfour Beatty’s Sustainability Strategy and is key to delivering company and client carbon reduction targets. The role is to provide carbon support across all Regional Civils projects in order to meet client requirements and deliver against the Business Unit’s Carbon Budget.
This is a national role with regular travel across the UK to various sites when required. You can be based anywhere in the UK reporting into the.
What you'll be doing
- Undertake whole life carbon base-lining and forecasting process on live projects to ensure carbon estimates are complete, use tailored carbon factors where available, and are auditable for PAS 2080 compliance.
- Provide carbon analysis from client carbon tools and other carbon tools (such as One Click LCA) or support others to do so.
- Provide preconstruction and delivery teams with understanding of hotspots and focus for carbon reductions.
- Support the development of processes as necessary, to collate actual carbon data from in-flight projects.
- Ensure carbon benchmarking data is periodically fed back into benchmarking during preconstruction and delivery stages of the project lifecycle; with checks to ensure consistency and accuracy of data.
- Utilise client carbon tools and/ or other carbon tools (such as One Click LCA), for carbon reporting to the client.
- Work with planning and preconstruction teams to identify options at project level to drive decarbonisation activities in order to drive innovation, meet client expectations and deliver against the business unit’s carbon budget.
Who we're looking for
- Demonstrable industry experience in a technical role (engineering / commercial) on a range of major infrastructure / civil engineering projects with a good understanding of construction methods, processes and temporary works
- Experience of bid, preconstruction or construction delivery phases of projects incorporating major, complex civil engineering.
- The commitment to help drive change and carbon management capability across the business.
- Good interpersonal skills that enable working relationships to be developed at all levels in the business.
- Some experience of engineering or commercial processes, supporting multi-level projects and programmes.
- Strong desire to upskill others to ensure lasting and positive shift in business approach.
- Support as necessary the periodic reporting of carbon benchmarking data during preconstruction and delivery stages of the project lifecycle; with checks to ensure consistency and accuracy of data.
- Support the development of training and guidance documents to ensure consistency of carbon estimating and maintain required standard.
- Support preconstruction and project teams to produce options assessments (currently cost and carbon, but also in future, time) and to upskill the business in this capability.
