The opportunity

We're working with a specialist operator of high-hazard industrial storage infrastructure to appoint an Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Advisor for a busy, safety-critical site in West Coast Scotland.

This is a newly created role, offering the chance to shape standards on a developing operation and support the site's continued progress towards full COMAH compliance. You'll act as the day-to-day EHS point of contact for the local leadership team, supporting both operational activity and project work, and helping embed a strong, practical safety culture.

What you'll be doing

  • Provide professional EHS guidance to site leadership, operations and project teams, covering occupational safety, environment, risk and process safety.
  • Support safe delivery of engineering and improvement projects, including CDM responsibilities where applicable.
  • Help maintain and continuously improve the site's Safety and Environmental Management Systems (SMS/EMS), aligning with recognised standards (e.g., ISO 45001 / ISO 14001).
  • Carry out inspections, audits and assurance activities across site operations and contractor work.
  • Lead or support incident/near-miss investigations, root cause analysis and corrective action close-out.
  • Produce clear, actionable performance reporting and share learning to drive continual improvement.
  • Contribute to emergency preparedness arrangements, exercises and readiness reviews.
  • Support management of change by advising on suitable controls and safety barriers for engineering changes.
  • Promote best practice and coach teams/contractors to improve EHS performance.

What we're looking for

  • Proven EHS experience within a major hazard / COMAH-regulated environment (or closely related high-risk industry such as fuel storage, chemicals, terminals, or heavy process operations).
  • NEBOSH-qualified (or equivalent) with a practical, hands-on approach on operational sites.
  • Sound working knowledge of COMAH principles, risk management and the application of ALARP.
  • Comfortable with a range of risk assessment tools (e.g., general RA, manual handling, HAZID/HAZOP).
  • Confident communicator who can build credibility with site teams, contractors and external stakeholders/regulators.
  • Strong report writing and attention to detail; competent with MS Office (Excel skills beneficial).
  • Full UK driving licence (some travel may be required).

Benefits (summary)

  • 30 days annual leave + bank holidays
  • Enhanced pension provision
  • Life assurance and income protection (post-probation)
  • Private healthcare (permanent staff)
  • Additional employee benefits available
