Ecologist - Essex

An established and growing ecological consultancy based in Essex is seeking an Ecologist to join its friendly and experienced team. This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated ecologist to work on a varied portfolio of projects while continuing to develop technical skills and professional experience within a supportive consultancy environment. The Ecologist will play an important role in supporting and delivering a range of ecological services across projects in sectors such as residential development, infrastructure, and land management.The successful candidate will benefit from a supportive working culture and a strong focus on professional development.

Responsibilities are expected to include:

  • Undertaking ecological surveys including Preliminary Ecological Appraisals (PEAs), habitat surveys, and protected species surveys

  • Assisting with and contributing to Ecological Impact Assessments and a variety of technical reports

  • Supporting biodiversity net gain assessments and habitat mapping

  • Collecting, analysing, and interpreting ecological data

  • Liaising with colleagues, clients, and stakeholders as required

  • Ensuring work is completed in accordance with current wildlife legislation, planning policy, and industry best practice

Applicants should ideally have:

  • A degree in Ecology, Environmental Science, or a related discipline

  • Previous experience undertaking ecological surveys

  • Knowledge of UK habitats, protected species, and relevant wildlife legislation

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Good organisational skills and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team

  • A full UK driving licence
