Associate Ecologist/Associate Director with BNG Specialism
This role involves shaping the future of our cities and environments from across the UK. You will be part of a collaborative ecological team that ensures ecological considerations are incorporated early in projects.
Your Role- Undertake BNG assessments and support junior staff on projects ranging from small habitats to nationally important infrastructure.
- Work both individually and collaboratively within the team.
- Client facing: Demonstrate a deep understanding of client requirements, seek internal support as needed, and develop relationships.
- Lead nationally important infrastructure projects, managing programmes and budgets.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, engaging stakeholders and clients.
- Actively engage across the business to cross sell, leverage capabilities, prepare bids, support strategic opportunities, build client relationships and drive work winning.
- Conduct technical checks and reviews of ecological reports and licence applications.
- Perform ecological assessment and habitat design for development and nature recovery projects.
- Develop innovative and pragmatic approaches to ecological mitigation and compensation.
- Deliver clear, concise, high quality ecological deliverables in line with current guidance and best practice.
- Co ordinate project leadership, coaching, mentoring, and support for team members.
- Allocate tasks and manage projects.
- A passion for ecology.
- Strong working knowledge of natural environment and wildlife legislation.
- Chartered through the Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management (CIEEM), CEcol or CEnv, or actively working towards this.
- Experience on Nationally Significant Infrastructure Projects and familiarity with the Development Consent Order (DCO) process.
- Good knowledge of Biodiversity Net Gain legislation, policy and methods.
- Ability to undertake Biodiversity Net Gain assessments, including feasibility, baseline and post works assessments.
- Good report writing skills, including experience of authoring Habitat Management and Monitoring Plans (HMMPs).
- Capability to advise on UKHab surveys, Preliminary Ecological Assessment, Ecological Impact Assessment and Biodiversity Net Gain assessments.
- Strong botanical skills, including Field Identification Skills Certificate (FISC) level 4+ or equivalent demonstrable ability.
- Strong project management experience covering technical, financial and quality assurance aspects.
- Experience in protected species survey, mitigation and licensing.
- Demonstrable understanding of work winning, through bidding and maintaining client relationships.
- Ability to manage ecological deliverables/projects from bidding through to completion.
- A full UK/EEC driving licence.
